March 2016 underwater photography workshop in the Philippines

In March 2016, we organized our second underwater photography workshop in the Philippines. 8 photographers and divers came with us to participate in it.

The purpose of this trip was to photograph rare species like Rhinopias, hairy frogfish, boxer crabs, and different species of pygmy seahorses and flamboyant cuttlefish. These are just some of the species that we looked for.

During this workshop, the trainees also photographed dozens of different species of nudibranchs.

Some participants came with a wish list of subjects they wanted to photograph. They photographed 80% of the species they wanted. This confirms that this class was a success in terms of the species we encountered.

This workshop in the Philippines was also an opportunity for participants to learn to take pictures differently, using a rigorous artistic approach. Every day we scheduled technical presentations and times to review everyone’s pictures. It was an opportunity for everyone to find new sources of inspiration and go deeper than simply naturalistic photography.

The course was a success in terms of exchanges between all the photographers. One of the goals we pursue during our photo trips is to bring together photographers who can share their knowledge and their photographic vision with each other while developing new ways to take pictures.

The Philippines is a great country for wide-angle as well as close-up photography. Many dives were devoted to taking wide-angle photographs of the underwater scenery.

There is no doubt that we will continue holding workshops in this region in coming years.
