Photo Series: Monkeys in Black and White
The animal world, especially monkeys, has always held a great fascination for us. We like to observe and contemplate them, and to understand how they live and how they organize their communities.
When we photograph their behaviors, we always try to pick the behaviors that seem most human. For example, we like to record a gaze, facial expression or a particular gesture which looks especially human. We like to anthropomorphize them.
Another aspect of monkeys that we like is their hair. We always try to photograph them with their backs to the light to show their iridescent hairs, or at a three-quarter turn for unique reflections that enable us to show the volume of their hair.
Over time, monkeys have become a source of inspiration for us.
We chose to use black and white to highlight these beautiful animals and to avoid losing anything of their natural beauty.
