Why Participating In A Nature Photography Workshop – Part 2
Our teaching method: ACANP
Our teaching method, "ACANP," is based on practice and our experiences. All the trainees who have attended our workshops confirm this every time.
We have developed this method over the time that we have taught underwater, wildlife and landscape photography. It is based both on the study of the basic techniques of nature photography and on advanced artistic concepts that enable each participant to develop his or her own photographic vision.
All the concepts we teach are based on reality out in the field. They come from our own experience and practice. We believe that it is important to reveal our secrets to trainees.
Students never represent competitors for us. A professional photographer’s job requires much more than technical knowledge. Success as a professional photographer is based on business, marketing and communication skills. It also requires a lot of management skills. To be a professional photographer, you must first and foremost be an entrepreneur. The points taught in the courses deal with a completely different area.
ACANP is an educational progression that begins with learning to use the camera and gear, and the basic rules of composition, such as how to frame photos. These concepts are intended for beginners who have never taken formal courses.
This educational progression will also give experienced, knowledgeable photographers many tools to refine their vision. We use concrete examples to channel their sensitivity in order to successfully open new creative doors.
Throughout our courses, we discuss questions about equipment based on what we are working on out in the field. For example, if we are working on wildlife photography, we will comprehensively explain how to use gradients and neutral filters. In wildlife photography, we discuss things like using flashes at high speed to freeze the motion of birds, such as hummingbirds. In underwater photography, we address topics such as using mixed light when photographing scenes.
ACANP takes into account all the aspects of photography, from taking the photo to processing it and creating slideshow or prints.
The advantage of having an established educational progression is that it enables participants to come back to other courses and continue to learn and progress. In the case of ACANP, the progression is constantly changing in response to the needs of the trainees.
We take two classes per year ourselves
We do more than just organize photography workshops. We take two classes per year ourselves. The first always has to do with marketing or sales techniques. The second is always a very technical course. One of the classes that we have just taken was about compositing.
We believe it is far more profitable to take a week-long class with a specialized trainer who will immediately explain everything that we need to learn than to spend time teaching ourselves. Financially, it is always more profitable.
We always take classes from the best specialists in any discipline we want to learn. We only have 6 days for each course, so they all need to be productive and conducted by serious leaders.
Meeting other enthusiasts about photography and nature
One of the goals of nature photography workshops is to be amazed by the richness of the landscapes that surround you. If, like us, you are primarily enthusiasts about the beauties of nature, then observing the animal world will give you joy and inimitable, constantly renewed feelings.
All the photographers who come to these workshops pursue the same goal, based on this simple idea of sharing the same passion.
To preserve the beauties of nature, we always respect the environment when taking pictures. We do not interfere with fauna or flora to make a picture. We do not feed the animals because it would change their natural behavior.
In wildlife photography, our techniques are based on stalking animals, going on a photo walk, or using a blind. We always stay within the boundaries imposed by wildlife. We never disturb a nest or a newborn mammal. If we believe that the creation of a photograph could disturb an animal or damage a natural site, we move on to look for another opportunity.
During our nature photography courses, we demand respect for the environment, whether we are on land or underwater.
Participating in a nature photography workshop is also an opportunity to meet and get to know other photographers who have the same moral and ethical values.
Discovering hidden treasures and having adventures in distant places
One of the goals of our workshops is to travel in order to discover new olfactory, auditory, tactile, visual, and gustatory experiences.
A photography workshop is more than a trip. It is a unique experience. We give participants all the technical guidance they need to succeed in creating photographs, but it is also another way to observe nature and the animal species that inhabit it.
These courses can be taught in environments that are near or far from home, but whatever the destination, the goal is the same: to explore the region in a different way. A nature photographer is more than a tourist.
Relaxing and thinking of different things
A nature photography workshop is a training period for a photographer who wants to deepen his expertise.
However, it is also a period of vacation and relaxation for a participant who wants to take his mind off of everyday things in the company of other people who share his passion for the beauties of nature.
That's why our classes always include accommodation in nice hotels or beautiful cruise ships. The restaurants are always excellent. During our courses, we do everything we can to enable everyone to forget the worries of everyday life. We do our best to make these moments of relaxation memorable.
Sharing, motivating, inspiring
We have a motto we always apply to our workshops and photography trips: sharing, motivating, inspiring.
Sharing: we always share all the techniques that the participants need to bring them to the level they wish to reach in photography. Whether they are beginners or advanced, we give them all the tips and techniques that they need to improve their photographic technique.
Motivating: we strive to always push the participants to go further in their photographic approach. We always do this in a pleasant way and give constructive feedback.
Inspiring: our workshops and photography trips, together with our educational expertise, always inspire participants to go down new artistic paths the existence of which they never suspected until they came on a trip with us.
Participating in a nature photography workshop is taking a class that will help you open new creative doors or learn new photographic techniques.
It's also a way to discover new horizons in the company of photographers who share the same passion and the same ethical values.
However, a workshop is also way to relax and enjoy a great holiday in a pleasant atmosphere where photography is at the center of all the discussions.
We have trained hundreds of photographers so far. Our trips and photography workshops represent an opportunity to share knowledge about animals’ habits and the places they frequent as well as about photography techniques. As enthusiasts about the beauties of nature, we all move forward in our quest for photographic inspiration and share techniques, which often opens new creative doors.
