Wildife Portfolio: Sublimate the Underwater and Land Animal Beauties
We are passionate about both land and underwater wildlife; we enjoy discovering and observing wild animals within their natural environments. Photography enables us to preserve the animal behaviors that we see or to create environmental animal portraits. But rather than using a naturalistic approach, we chose to use an artistic approach.
Wildlife portfolio: Two Differents Approaches
Environmental Wildlife Portraits
In our pictures, we always show the animals in their natural environments. We try to create photographs using backgrounds that bring out the best in our subjects. We have developed our own photographic approach. We do not merely limit ourselves to simple portraits of animals. Instead, we use a holistic approach, showing them in their natural environments. We show others the environment in which we all live. Beautiful photographs of animals help educate people about the fragility of a fascinating and relatively unknown world, while inspiring them to adventure and explore.
The Fragility of the Animal World
You certainly know the names of several wild animals. You have probably had the opportunity to watch videos or see pictures of them. But how often have you been close to them — even ones that live near you? We try to use our photographs to show viewers that it is possible to observe animals to know them better and understand their fragility.
Preserving and Communicating the Emotion of an Animal Encounter
Have you ever looked a deer in the eye and experienced its surprise when it notices you standing at the corner of a forest road? Have you ever felt the excitement of dealing with a sow whose hair bristles when you get too close to her piglets? Have you ever felt the cold determination of a shark as it looks at you from just yards away? We have had the chance to experience many such fleeting but very intense emotions. We will always remember them. Sometimes we can capture them with our cameras. It is always exciting to take pictures because we know that we can share that image with others and express what we felt in that moment.
Two Approaches: Color or Black and White
To show our artistic vision for wildlife, we chose two different approaches.
First, we chose to use black and white photography, which involves its own philosophy of photography and can convey certain emotions that cannot be expressed through color photos. We continue to search for simple scenes and subjects that will be emphasized well by this artistic photography technique. Black-and-white photographs immediately emphasize the point of interest. The viewer’s gaze is guided by geometric shapes, lines of flight, perspectives, and the contrast between light and dark. These elements which will enable the viewer to understand the message we want to convey. We could simplify this by saying that a black-and-white photograph further eliminates distractions to deliver its essential message.
For the color, we are always looking for the most beautiful colors and lights to show land or underwater wildlife, to sublimate it. To create our wildlife photographs, we are also working to illuminate details whether on the skin, in furs or feathers.
