Diver Canada : March 2007

In this article published in the canadian magazine Diver Magazine, a complete article about Ville Franche sur Mer in the Mediterranean Sea in France.
Here is the beginning of the article :

"Between Nice and Monaco, Villefranche-sur-Mer is famous to the free-divers for being the practice place of the Free-diving French champion, Loïc Leferme. It is also the base of his school. This village created in 1295 per Charles II of Anjou, knew how to preserve its picturesque charm over the centuries: hot colors of the Mediterranean buildings, its small and steep streets with the paces of yore. Villefranche-sur-Mer offers also treasures which attract each year thousands of visitors. Choose between the strengthened Citadel built in the 16th century by André Provana de Leyni, the church “Michel Saint” built in the 18th century, the chapel Saint Pierre built in the 14th century and decorated by Jean Cocteau or the « obscure » street built in the 14th century. Villefranche-sur-Mer is also characterized by its immense roads bordered of a splendid beach and which accommodates some 380 meters length steamers with a draft of 15 meters. Lastly, Villefranche-sur-Mer counts also two historical ports : the Port of Health and the Royal Port of the Wet dock.
But the brood city in edge of the Provence has a facet very little known: its deep-sea diving capability. The sites are attended only by experts and accustomed divers who avoid of too much speaking about it to preserve the exclusiveness of its exceptional sites. The Dives are done in the bay or its entry. Therefore they are always protected except in the event of strong wind from the south."
