The bird is native to Northern Europe and Asia, with a wingspan of up to 2,4 meters (8 feet) and a weight of up to 15 kilograms (33 pounds). Mute swans are considered an invasive species in some parts of North America, where they have displaced native waterfowl and caused damage to aquatic habitats.

As per its name, the swan remains silent but can make hissing and grunting sounds during aggressive mood displays or when alarmed. However, mute swans are known for their beauty, striking white plumage, long and graceful necks.

Also, they are popular for their aggressive behavior during the breeding season, when they can become territorial and attack perceived threats to their nests or offspring. But they are very protective of their chickens. It is also funny to see how they teach them to find food.

You can find them in various aquatic habitats, including lakes, rivers, and coastal estuaries. They are omnivorous and feed on a range of aquatic plants, as well as small animals such as fish, frogs, and insects.

What I love in the mute swans is the grace when they swim at the surface of a pond. I love the power they put in when they take off. It is an eye-soothing and impressive view. Like other birds, it symbolizes freedom to move, to go anywhere when they wish. They have no barrier, no frontier on their movements and travel.

If you are fortunate enough, you can see the beautiful silver-grey fluff gliding along with mum around May and June. These swans are often considered a symbol of romance as well as purity and unity. And this consideration comes from their long-term pair bonds.
