The Story of the Collection
Do you know of Red Rock Canyon in the state of Nevada in the United States? If the answer is no, then do not worry. This is normal. Few people know of this canyon located about 20 kilometers (13 miles) northwest of Las Vegas.
It is part of the great Mojave Desert.
If you ever have the opportunity to visit western United States, do not hesitate to take a day or two to become lost in the meanders of the gorgeous red sandstone rocks, whose highest point is at 1000 meters (3,280 feet).
Every year, I journey for two full days to contemplate the extraordinary Red Rock Canyon landscapes that are typical of the great American desert areas. It is a protected natural region. Yuccas and cacti reign over the meadows at the foot of the mountains.
The red colors begin to blaze as the sun rises over Red Rock Canyon. In another collection, I chose to use color to illuminate the natural wonders of this unique place.
For this collection, I chose black and white. This is a very unusual approach. However, for me, it was the only way to truly depict the peace and quiet of this place.
As usual, I wanted to focus on the essentials in my composition. The first element that I wanted to highlight was the rocks, which have very particular shapes. Next are the meadows with some shrubs and yuccas. Nothing else can grow in this region since temperatures often exceed 40 degrees Celsius and can even reach strong negative temperatures in winter.
The format I have chosen is the 3:1 format: the panoramic format. In this way, I was able to create space to enable your mind and imagination to wander.
