The Story of the Collection
Art photography enables me to express emotions and transmit messages.
It allows me to create aesthetic photographic works.
For this collection, I chose to focus on a specific message.
One of my favorite themes in artistic photographic expression is to symbolically show the relationships between human beings.
It is very difficult for me to understand why so many people, despite all the means of communication at their disposal through technological progress, are becoming more and more distant from each other.
I do not understand why more and more people feel alone in a world that is increasing in population.
We have at our disposal so many forms of communication: speech, writing, singing, art, even nonverbal signs to express ourselves. However, I feel like we do not communicate enough with each other. I believe that sincere and frank exchanges have disappeared in favor of hushed, cryptic messages. Truth has nearly disappeared from our verbal exchanges.
How many times have we chosen not to express ourselves on a subject or to clearly speak our thoughts? I am sure that you have felt this frustration.
In this collection that I have called "Loneliness", I have captured stakes planted in an ancient pasture covered by water, thus representing the isolation of human beings.
Some fine art prints show stakes linked together with barbed wire. This symbolizes the link that exists between people. The tips of the barbed wire are sharp enough to cut when touched, and this can be very painful. This symbolizes the tense emotions and dangerous challenges that unhealthy relationships can cause between human beings. I wanted to show that people can experience loneliness even amidst connection with another.
For some of the artistic photographs, I have chosen not to show barbed wire. This time, the stakes are completely isolated. To be alone is to be surrounded by other people but to avoid communication. Everyone lives in his own bubble, and in his own world.
I chose black and white and high key as creative techniques to make the stakes as visible as possible. Each of them clearly evokes the standing position of a human being. However, no further details about the human person are presented. Being alone affects each person, regardless of gender, race, religion, or beliefs. Despite our differences dividing us, we are united in the universal emotion of loneliness.
Some stakes appear taller than the others. Loneliness is felt through each stage of life, from the very young to the very old. No one is spared.
This collection is a distress call of our humanity: Can we relearn how to use words to say things simply, honestly, and sincerely? It is time that we get to know each other better so that we can improve ourselves and our world.
