I made this forest in a forest in France. I always use a blind to hide and take photos. It allows me to hide and not be visible to the animals. I can only see in front of me. I cannot take pictures from the sides. This detail is important to understand the story behind this photo.
It was a cool October. The oaks were yielding plenty of acorns, which the deer were fond of. I chose to set up my blind not far from an oak grove. After several hours of waiting, no deer had come to taste these delicacies. I decided to get out of my blind and put my equipment away.
No sooner had I stepped out than my gaze caught on the left. A big stag was watching me from about 150 feet (fifty meters) away. It is an extraordinary encounter. I am captivated by its haughty stance and almost princely presence. I slowly bring my camera up to my eyes, making no sudden movements. He does not escape. He looks at me attentively. He is curious.
