What Is a Fine Art Print?

In the fewest possible words, fine art printings are those professional pictures or photographs which are printed on "HD Quality" papers. They usually look so vivid, natural, and kind of realistic. The design of any fine art prints pass quality standards and they're generally desired by printers and many professional photographers.

When it comes to interior design, fine art prints are becoming one of the leading trends these days. You may notice it almost everywhere, from office to home, bars to hotels, and restaurants to commercial spaces.

What are the Benefits of Fine Art Prints?

Countless benefits can be found when we talk about fine art prints. Here I've mentioned some of the key advantages of having them, which are given below:

  • Fine Art Prints are Versatile
It's possible to get something that equips a wide range of sizes, colors, shapes, styles, and designs except for the fine art prints! Thankfully, you're able to give your art any shape according to your preferences. So, whether you're looking for a print of small-sized to fit tight areas, or let's say you're hungry for something like a bold design to deliver a center point – fine art prints are just awesome in one word!
  • Way Stylish!
Needless to say, art prints have a reputation for their clean as well as contemporary. They ensure a streamlined finish and the style they show off is universally approved by printers along with expert photographers.
  • Ensures Longevity
Unlike the typical hand-painted arts, art prints generally use high-quality printing to confirm the color won't get faded or discolored soon. Due to this fact, they'll stand even longer than usual to ensure as much longevity as required.
Even though you place it under the heat of extreme sunlight for days and days, fine art prints won't end up with discoloration, thankfully!
  • Affordable Price Range
Despite having plenty of quality features, it's possible to get a fine art print without spending a fortune! What does it mean? You're able to fill your office and home with lots of fine art prints as they won't charge higher.

Fine Art Print vs Photographic Print - What is the Difference?

A couple of differences can be noticed when you go to search for fine art print vs photo print. Let's have a look at them:

  • Difference in Paper Type:
Fine art prints are generally made of "fine art papers," which include non-acidic cotton as primary material. They'll be durable compared to the photographic prints as they're manufactured with "photo papers." Such papers are light-sensitive as well as resin-coated.
  • Difference in Texture:
You'll find the paper of fine art prints kind of thicker, lightly textured, and matte. On the flip side, photographic print papers are thinner, quite smoother, and glossy.
  • Difference in Longevity:
Fine art prints are long-lasting, and they come with an average lifespan of about 100 years or so. Although a photographic print can also last nearly 100 years, it tends to get discolored within 25 to 50 years!

Ideas on Choose a Fine Art Print for Your Home or Your Office

One of the greatest things about a fine art photo print is that it has the ability to make a perfect match with almost any décor. But chances are you'll adjust the one in your kitchen but that matches your bedroom most, seems confusing, eh?

Well, let me give you some basic ideas on choosing fine art prints for either your office or home:

  1. A Fine Art Print Must be Harmony with your Interior
In a nutshell, harmony refers to the approximate sense which indicates that each of the components of design has well-suited. So if you're selecting a fine art print for your interior décor, make sure the internal decoration is soft and has arranged in order. I'd say behind your sofa is one of the nicest locations to attach fine art print posters, where it may make the perfect match!
Also, focus on color choosing; prefer having something deeper if your decoration appears brighter. And similarly, go for brighter prints in case the interior design appears to be darker.
  2. The Right Proportions
Artworks can commonly be found around the middle or center part of any décor, capturing anyone's attention straight away. Take the approximate measurement of your sofa to confirm that your art print is no longer than 2/3 of its actual size. Try to have a short space between the photo's edge and the sofa's back, for which your head doesn't touch onto it while you're taking a seat.
  3. Consider Your Space
11 x 14 is considered the most standard size for any art prints. Nevertheless, the size may vary depending on your office or interior décor's space. Make sure you're familiar with an approximate measurement of the wall where you want to fit your fine art print. I'd say around 70-75% of total space has to be available for your fine art print, which is the ideal range.
  4. In What Room
Thankfully, there's no limitation at all to fit your fine art digital print. So it doesn't matter whether it's a sitting room, bedroom, or let's say your office, choosing fine art printing paper is a wise decision! But you have to identify the right image or picture for your room, which should be perfectly matched with the decoration.
For instance, when you're looking for art prints for your bedroom, get your hands on some abstract pieces that combine soothing tones or colors. Desaturated or landscape pictures may work best. While decorating your sitting room, go for a single large gallery or a piece of large scale.

A Fine Art Print Should Resist in Time

No matter which design or style of a fine art print is your cup of tea, you should look for the one that can last for a long period of time. Fine art prints aren't something you purchase on a frequent basis. That's why it's necessary to spend your dollars on that piece that is long-lasting and has the quality to mark your wall with its individual imprint.

How to Light Your Room

Lighting plays a major role in giving your artwork a more realistic and vivid look. But adjusting the brightness and color can be a bit confusing! Around 2500-3000K is ideal when it comes down to the range of kelvin. LED lights are preferable to use for fine art print as they boost longevity. Speaking of the type of lights, I'd say go for soft white glow as they give art print a classic look. You can either install spotlights near the ceiling in order to bring attention to your photographs.

Eye-Catching Color Combination

Getting familiar with the color combinations is another key to enjoying the beauty of your fine art print. Black and white is an evergreen combination you may look for. Along with that, you can either select red and yellow, orange, and purple, blue and green or black and yellow.

Maintaining a Visual Distance

There's no rocket science; your fine art print should be placed in those areas which are maintaining at least a minimal distance from your furniture and other home appliances. As mentioned above, you can choose the rear spot of your sofa to fit your art print, just need to make sure there's a little space between the sofa's/bed's back and photo's edge.

To Create a Gallery Wall

To highlight your taste and personality through artwork, creating a gallery wall is obviously a good idea. Feel free to make a list of your favorite fine art prints no matter whether they're showing off different scenarios or not, arrange them in order, and get them attached to your wall.

I've also seen many designers who create gallery walls for showcasing their working projects in the smartest way possible. Trust me, it's a very good idea for both home and office.

Although there are a variety of different paper choices for fine art prints, you'll be capable of bringing out the most vivid color in your photos using either semi-gloss or glossy papers. Besides, papers should be thicker enough instead of thinner. To ensure smoother and softer look, many expert photographers have been using matte papers combining white-and-black prints.
  2. What is a Best Size for Fine Art Prints?

How to Choose Perfect Fine Art Prints?

Getting the best fine art photography print might be a little trickier, yet not impossible at all. From choosing the right proportions to getting familiar with the color combinations, so many things are involved.

Getting confused? Cool, I'm here to help you choose the perfect fine art prints. So, let's see what things you need to look for:

  1. Selecting the Correct Proportions
Before looking at anywhere else, make sure to know about your décor first. In general, fine art prints suit the center/middle part of any decoration, especially to grab your attention. If you're going to place it inside your drawing room, I'd suggest taking the measurement of your sofa first, making sure the art print you want to purchase isn't bigger than 2/3 of the approximate size.
  2. Getting Familiar With the Size Where You Want to Set Up
The title says it all; fine art prints are commonly available in standard sizes, depending on your décor's space. So, if you're looking for a fine art photography for your interior, make sure the wall where you're going to set up the artwork has adequate space available. According to my research, around 70-75% is the standard range to look for.
  3. This Has to Be Long-lasting!
Put a smile on your face as a fine art printing paper is quite popular among the artwork enthusiasts due to its extended lifespan. Generally, it lasts for up to 100 years, depending on your caring and the way you're treating.
However, you'd better look for the overall quality before making an ultimate purchase. Feel free to ask the sellers in terms of knowing its actual lifespan.
  4. Determine Where You Want to Adjust Your Fine Art Print
There's no rocket science; fine art print photography is of tons of different appearances and designs. So, it's pretty obvious that you choose the one that matches your room most. For example, landscape pictures suit the bedroom, while a large gallery/scale is more suitable for your drawing room.
  5. Knowing the Color Combinations
Last but certainly not least, you should have at least decent knowledge of color combinations, enjoying the artwork in the best way possible. White and black have always been my favorite. You can either go with red and yellow, yellow and black, or even green and blue to create an excellent combination.

Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q's):

  1. What's the approximate lifespan of a fine art photo print?
Interestingly, fine art photo prints can last for an extended period of time, depending on how you treat them. But in general, they last for up to 100 years without any issues.
  2. Can extreme sunlight fade my art prints?
Unfortunately, it can! Although most of the fine art prints these days come with the capability to withstand the extreme heat of the sun, they tend to lose their quality day by day by getting close contact with the sun on a regular basis.
So, what's the solution? Well, while adjusting a fine art print, ensure to look for the place which doesn't get direct sunlight. Also, you can take help from an extra UV glass, giving as much protection as possible to your exquisite photography.
  3. Which colors get faded too quickly in the sunlight?
Orange, red, yellow are the common colors that tend to fade more quickly due to the poor caring and direct contact with sunlight. But you can save them once and for all, taking help from UV glass, which I've mentioned before.
  4. Fine art print vs. photo print – which one is better?
Although each of them has its own unique specs and specialties, I'd say the fine art print deserves the front place due to its extended life and the more realistic view it shows off. Especially manufactured with non-acidic cotton, a fine art print is more durable and more capable of withstanding UV rays and moisture.
Consequently, print fine arts last pretty longer with less yellowing, cracking, or even fading!

Wrapping It Up!

Now you should believe the importance of having a fine art print as I've shown you the 9 reasons why buying a fine art print can make you feel good!

Once again, I want to mention that getting fine art photography isn't just about making your house/office classier; it's also about giving you the chance to improve your mental health, develop your empathy, and boost up your memories!

About Amar Guillen, Creator of Fine Art Prints of Nature
As a photographer capturing the artistic essence for several decades, I have mastered the art of crafting an authentic experience for art enthusiasts and collectors of visual art.
When I observe my surroundings, be it friends, family, relationships, or professional contacts, I see souls in perpetual motion. Every moment of their existence is engulfed by daily hassles, work concerns, social media, online or televised information streams, and videos on the web.
Every minute, they strive to accomplish something, fearing losing ground and feeling marginalized in this frenzied society. Imprisoned by an oppressive schedule, the essential eludes them, drowned in the tumult of daily life. Is it really crucial to watch yet another cat video on the internet? Is it necessary to post twenty daily messages on social media?
Despite this, they remain constantly stressed and anxious about the challenges of the world, without being able to influence these monumental problems. It is at this moment that my artistic nature photographs come into play. Those who have had the privilege of hanging one of my works in their personal or professional space have expressed a radical transformation in their lives.
Every day, contemplating these works of art immerses them in tranquility, inner peace, and rediscovered serenity. They then understand that nature has the power to unravel tensions, to encourage reflection on the essential. Artistic photographs thus become open windows to the wonders of nature.
I have chosen to share the best of myself by helping others discover their identity, personality, style, all while reconnecting with nature. Take the time to explore my artistic photographs if you wish to reveal your true essence. Once hung in your space, your view of the world will be transformed.
Amar Guillen is a creator of fine art prints of nature.
I am Amar Guillen, creator of nature art photographs. I have a deep conviction that contemplating nature has the power to transform human beings. If everyone learned to know, respect, and preserve nature, our world would be transformed into a haven of peace where everyone would find their place.
