The Story of the Collection
This collection of photos in black and white is devoted to spectacular mineral formations that I photographed in the state of Arizona, not far from the city of Page.
Immediately, these shapes reminded me of guards. The word has to be taken in its best sense. To me, these structures represent people who have the wisdom and philosophical knowledge that must be passed on to those who want it.
I loved the tranquility of this desert region. I felt that the guards had watched over this area for millennia. They are the guarantors of stability in the area. They will produce tranquility by passing on the values of peace and serenity. The heavy clouds allowed me to show the turmoil that predominates in the world today. The guards are the presence that helps preserve and pass on the good values that are lacking in many societies today.
For me, these shapes represent calm, serenity and the passage of time. They evoke the wisdom of scholars, people who have experience and who share their wisdom with new generations.
I chose to use black and white to highlight the scenic beauty and the power that emerges from these structures. This medium also allows me to bring out the details of the mineral structures.
