Feathers have always fascinated me. The first reason is that I love to observe and photograph birds. When I see them flying in the sky, I envy them a little. They must see so far away across horizon. They must feel so free. The second reason is that I find some feathers delicate and fragile. A thing of beauty, feathers must be treasured if they are to last.

Sometimes when I am in a floating blind, I spend hours walking around a pond looking for the perfect feather. The first thing I look for is its shape. Then I check to make sure it's not damaged. Finally, it must be in a good light. I sometimes take 30 to 40 minutes to photograph a feather. Do not think that photographing a feather is easy or relaxing. A slight wind can move a feather a few feet out of view. In this new location, the light may not be good anymore. I have to wait for it to reposition itself properly. It is impossible to touch a feather even with gloves because it loses its shape and delicacy.

When all the conditions are met, I have fun capturing photos from the perfect angle so that it is breathtaking.
