Africa is a dream continent for photographers passionate for nature whether it involves landscapes or animals.
For this collection of black and white wildlife photographs, I chose to show only glimpses. They translate curiosity, joy, and astonishment.
I am totally fascinated by animal expressions. Whenever I observe wild animals in their natural environment and I am close enough to stare into their eyes, I always wonder what they think of me.
Unlike wild European or American mammals that are fearful when hunted, African animals can be approached. This technique makes it possible to closely grasp expressions that are almost impossible to produce in Europe or in America. I always have the impression that wild African mammals are more expressive than those of European or American mammals.
With African animals, I am fascinating by their eyes, which resemble the eyes of humans. These are certainly anthropomorphic behaviors on my part, but when you have several minutes to gaze into a buffalo face to face, you end up establishing a priceless kind of communication. For me, the most interesting experience involves the elephants They are constantly moving in the savannahs, but when they pass near me, I feel their interrogative glances and sometimes even feel their haughtiness. They know perfectly well that I am nothing in the face of their power and strength.
What about the glimpse of the lion waiting patiently for the lioness to bring him his meal. It's often a questioning glimpse. It is expressive, but why and for what purpose? It's not always easy to determine.
For me as professional wildlife photographer, Africa is undoubtedly a wonderful place for photography. It not only interests me because of its illustrative beauty, but also because of its energy-charged emotions that emerge from the glimpses of the animals
