Professional Underwater Photographer Artist

The underwater world is beautiful, magical, and extraordinary. My love for the wonders of nature has naturally led me to spend time scuba diving in order to observe and enjoy the colorful underwater world. But I soon reached the point where I could not stay underwater long enough for my satisfaction. I had no words to describe my underwater journeys, yet I wanted others to understand and appreciate the incredible wonders to be found under the ocean. Underwater photography offered me a way to show the wonders of the sea to others, and to preserve what I see underwater. It has become a way for me to testify to the wonders of underwater nature.

Inspired by the Underwater Wonders

My inspiration comes from contemplation of the wonders of nature. The underwater world is only one facet of nature. I dive to observe and learn more about the underwater world, and to learn its subtleties. All the subjects I photograph are shown in the wonderful lights and colors found beneath the sea. This is my photographic vision. It allows me to show to others the wonders that I see. I love the true wonders of this unknown and wonderful world in which I find so much of my inspiration.

I attach great importance to environmental underwater photography. I like to show animals in their natural environments, because this is where they make the best subjects. All my compositions, all my frames are designed and thought out to get beautiful backgrounds and negative spaces which correspond to where the animals really live.

Photographing Animals to Raise Awareness

My underwater photographs are intended both to show aquatic species and to express my emotions about a beautiful scene. The colors, shapes, and lights found underwater are always very special and very different from nature on land. It is very difficult to describe the emotions I experience. The image has become a great way for me to showcase the wonders of nature under the sea, whether in my exhibitions, my books, or my conferences. I always try to show the fragility of the species I encounter and how they depend on reasoned and reasonable human behavior.

The underwater world, despite some coverage in television, radio and film, remains largely unknown to most people. Few people dive and few have even had the opportunity to put a diving mask just to watch from the surface. Their knowledge of the marine environment is limited to the different species of fish and shellfish sold in the stalls of fishmongers. Because of their ignorance, few people really feel concerned about the problems of this underwater world, whether those posed by overfishing or by various forms of pollution. Few people adopt a protective attitude towards the undersea environment. My work as a professional photographer is to create photographs which remind people of the fragility of this wonderful world.

Rediscovering Forgotten Wonders

One of my specialties is to try to show the wonders and variety of the underwater environments close to people. I try to remind people of the treasures that are close to them. I try to surprise them with the underwater wonders and inspire them to go discover the seascapes that are close to them.

Photo Techniques to Show the Underwater Wonders

To better document the wonders of the sea and its creatures, I use all the available photographic techniques. I prefer photographs with wide dynamic ranges which show all the fine details of scales, skins or shells. Textures and materials are important elements in underwater photography. But techniques are not an end in themselves for me. They are only a means to achieve an end, and that end is to create a work of art that can be treasured for generations to come.

Sharing my Love for Underwater Wonders with Other Photographers

I love to meet other photographers who are also passionate about the wonders of underwater landscapes and wildlife. I share with them my photo techniques and my knowledge about the habits of underwater wildlife. This is an opportunity to share my passion for the wonders of nature with other photographers who also seek for inspiration from nature. Sharing my techniques often allows participants to my photo trips to find new artistic inspiration.
