Creating fine art photographs is simple if the photographer respects the methodology, the rules of quality, and has values his prospective audience.

However, these guidelines are not enough. Since our beginnings in the photography business, we have had the opportunity to meet many photographers during festivals or exhibitions who presented extraordinary series. We were continually inspired and refreshed by their approach. Yet, when we looked at their artistic production a year or two later, we found that they simply copied and pasted their first set. They had refrained from trying new ideas. It was as if their source of inspiration had dried up. This is a very common phenomenon among artists, whether singers, writers, painters, or sculptors. We call this phenomenon “the drying up of inspiration.”

These inspired artists have not tried to integrate their act of creation into a broader global approach. They do not ask themselves whether there will be a sequel. These photographers merely experienced a moment of genius, but abruptly ceased their work when their artistic approach became unclear.

A photographer who wishes to create artistic photographs must do so with inspiration as a springboard for future projects that could potentially exceed the current series. Personally, we are still thinking about the passion that has led us to use photography as a means of expression. We are constantly updating our portfolio and our artistic signature.

In our imagination, our photo projects are part of a greater mission that lasts for years. We express ourselves by sharing our emotions and our feelings with an intense perspective of the passing of time. We strive for new sources of inspiration, so that we will not become trapped in a mundane desert. Although inspiration is not an ocean, it is a vast river that unceasingly flows throughout the world, carrying anything in its path. This is what motivates us to wake up each morning and work towards achieving our goals.

We would also like to emphasize that this is one of the fundamental differences between artistic and documentary photography. Art photography is part of a large project that lasts for a very long term. It is not fleeting. It is built on solid foundations. It is the translation of the photographer's personality and his spirit. When you know the complexity of the human mind, it is easy to realize that it takes a long time to become a good art photographer and that the energy to achieve it is tremendous.

Art Photography is a Means of Expression for an Artist

Fine art photography is above all, an expression of the emotions, feelings, and opinions of a photographer. We believe that it is possible to establish a hierarchy in the steps of the creative approach of art photography. It comes down to three distinct points that guide our work method.

Artistic photography:

• Above all, it is centered around the artist and his ambitions.
• It involves certain photographed subjects and scenes.
• Finally, technique is also important.

The photographer is at the heart of the creative process. He is the nucleus. Everything revolves around him. Subjects and technique are secondary to the photographer. They are only there to strengthen the artistic approach of the creator.

Throughout our professional life, we have noticed that it is not easy for a photographer to consider himself an artist, as there is a stereotype that accompanies the profession. At first, we felt shame when considering ourselves to be artists. It took us years to acquire confidence. An artist is often perceived as someone unreachable, living in an untouchable world. Yet the truth is terribly simple and must be accepted, even if it is difficult.

An artist is just someone who has chosen to express his or her vision of the world by choosing a specific medium. In our case, it was photography. It is for this reason that a correct and precise definition of the artist’s creative statement is essential for art photography. This artistic approach is also called the photographic vision, and it is the DNA of the art photographer.

These are all the rules he will follow during the process of creating his works.

Art Photography Requires a Titanic Activity

To create artistic photographic works, it is necessary to deploy energetic activity. We describe this as titanic activity. The time spent creating an interesting photographic corpus takes years. It is thus prolonged until the end of the artist's life.

Nothing is done randomly when considering creativity from a long-term perspective. As we have already mentioned, we met photographers who were true geniuses in creating exceptional series of fine art photos. They even inspired us, very often. But the flame was quickly extinguished. The reason is very simple: the lack of work, diligence and personal research. Luck is certainly a fundamental element in the creative process, but it is not a sufficient condition.

An artistic photographer must continue to learn, look for other sources of inspiration, improve his technique, and study the approach of other artists. He must never let himself go thinking that everything has been acquired. All his senses must be on the lookout for contemporary trends, new techniques or technologies. All the details matter. Nothing must be left to chance.

An artistic photographer must always control the creative processes arising from his photographic vision. He must keep his perspective of the world intact so that he expresses himself accurately. He owes his audience respect when doing so.

An artist must be an expert in all the areas of his field. His goal is to constantly improve his technique until it perfectly mastered. An artist is a craftsman in the noblest sense of the term. But all these acts require time, patience, and pugnacity.

Another required quality knowing how to rise again after a failure. It is this quality that we developed the most upon living in the United States. Failure is recognized as an essential phase in learning. We never have been blamed by anyone for a failure. We have always been encouraged to analyze the reasons for a beneficial rebound. Since the time we have been in this business, we have experienced many failures and we will continue to encounter failure, even if we refrain from sharing these experiences. We choose to talk about our successes because they are the ones that spur us on to greater heights. Yet knowing how to cope with failure is as important as continuing on the road of success. It is an essential quality in artistic photography because choices, once decided, are always subjective. Very often we are wrong.

Another required quality is to admit that perfection is impossible to achieve. It is for this reason that an entire lifetime will never be enough for an artist. Perfection is a goal, but it is inaccessible. We can always do better.

But is it so important? We think that the answer is no. We believe that the important things in life are the paths we choose for our journey. The destination is only secondary. While traveling on these paths of life, we meet people, we live experiences, and we encounter intense emotions. We build ourselves upon these famous foundations that we constantly evoke.

Creating art photographs is a real reason for us to live. What was once only a passion has now become a straight path to expressing ourselves, and creating consciousness in our world. Artistic photography brings an essential balance to our life.
